Delegation of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences visiting Estonia
At the invitation of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, delegation headed by the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mr. Akif Alizadeh, paid a visit to the Republic of Estonia on 27-28 October.
On the first day of the visit on October 27, the delegation visited Tallinn Univesity of Technology and met with the institution’s research Prorector Mr. Renno Veinthal. Special presentations for the Azerbaijani delegation regarding University’s research projects in various areas were held.
At the same day in the historic building of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, a solemn ceremony of signing the agreement on scientific cooperation between the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Estonian Academy of Sciences was held.
The agreement was signed by the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mr. Akif Alizadeh and the President of Estonian Academy of Sciences Mr. Tarmo Soomere.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Estonia Mr. Murad Najafbayli, members of the Estonian Academy of Sciences and other prominent scientists. At the end of the ceremony Mr. A. Alizade presented his Estonian colleague the 70th jubilee medal of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, gave the ceremony participants extensive information about the history and current scientific projects of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and invited Mr. T. Soomere, President of Estonian Academy of Sciences to visit Azerbaijan.
Mr. T. Soomere, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the gift and noted that the Estonian Academy of Sciences was honored to receive colleagues from Azerbaijan for the first time and that there had not been such a ceremony in the last 4 years.
Expressing hope for the implementation of the agreement, Mr. T. Soomere also talked about the Academy’s activities and the history of the building.
Later on, a small excursion of the Academy building was held for the participants. The friendly atmosphered event was followed by a reception.
During the visit, the delegation also visited Tallinn University, met with University’s Prorector for research Ms. Katrin Niglas and acquainted with the activities of the institution.
